Yes. This helps keep your license active without the need to re-purchase in a year after you notice that automatic updates stopped working and a critical bug fix was needed or your access to priority support is gone. However, the recurring payment can be canceled at anytime, and if canceled your license will stay active until the end of the term paid.
An active license provides: automatic updates for your install of Sprout Invoices, access to priority support, and discounted add-ons in the marketplace. New feature releases are pushed out on a regular schedule; in the last year 10 major releases were pushed out to active license holders.
We can empathize with those reluctant to setup any type of subscription, especially those that simply want a license longer than a year. While we don't believe in the "lifetime" license (because we are in this for the long-run, not wanting to make a quick buck now) we do have an extended license that's heavily discounted. The Extended Business License is a three year license without a recurring payment.
